As the first race of the season I was very much looking forward to this race but I must admit quite nervous too. After a hard week’s training I wasn’t sure what to expect from my legs and even on a good day the Hoggenburg is a pretty tough hill to climb every few minutes at race pace for a whole hour! Quite unexpectantly my legs were feeling good, I think the ride out to Hog Hill all the way from Crystal Palace actually did a lot of good.
So it was Helen, Anna, Charlie and myself all on the start ready to test out our legs along with 29 others! A great turn out for Hog Hill.
“A huge field saw the race together for the opening lap and as the pace lifted riders began to fall back and with Lydia Boylan and Clare Leaver in particular pushing on the front eventually seven riders went ahead.
The seven continued together for many laps but at the bell Emily Bagnall dropped back on the Hogberg whilst at the front Karla Boddy outsprinted Boylan as the leaders crossed the line a few seconds apart.
A minute or so further back was Helen McKay in eighth with the rest scattered into small groups along the circuit.”
